Back to the Garden

Luke 8:5-8

5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Many People enjoy outdoor gardens, be it vegetables or flowers. There is just something about the beauty and fascination of seeing plants grow from a simple seed to a mature plant. God is truly a perfect God. However, any gardener knows the toil and labor required to keep the garden producing. Weeds, intruders, diseases, rocks and temperatures can all cause reduction or even total crop failure if not attended to. Right from the beginning in Genesis we find God telling Adam man would have to toil as this was the curse given to Adam for disobedience.

Genesis 3 17-19

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Adam had peace and daily communication with God in the Garden of Eden until he sinned and disobeyed. Sin, disobedience ,worldly and fleshly desires will always produce thorns and thistles

Christians like the gardener must constantly be cleaning the heart. As stated in the parable of the sower we cannot afford to allow unprofitable seed into the heart. With the current situation we are facing with Covid 19 a lot has changed in our lives. I think all of us are looking to find things to keep occupied. What an opportunity for Spring Cleaning. Given most of us have extra time available, committing time to prayer and reading Gods Word is profitable. We can ask God to help us prepare our heart and rid the unwanted thorns and thistles. Like the Gardener, it takes toil, time and effort to see the fruits produced. Let us be encouraged in these end times to dedicate ourselves so we can be profitable bringing 30, 60 or 100 fold back to the Master.

Let our request be as King David in Psalm 51 verse 10:

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Let‘s get Back to the Garden – daily communication with Jesus Christ.
